Firs Aid Kit

Know what’s in your First Aid Kit.  Beyond that, know how to use it.

Most people know how to apply a bandage to a cut finger, but how about some of the other products in your family’s first aid kit, the one that you have set aside for emergency use?

Some kits, for instance, contain Cold Spray, a  non-medicated spray designed to cool skin fast in order to help relieve pain and swelling. This can be very important in the moments following injury.  On the other hand, the manufacturer warns that it is highly flammable and should not be inhaled. As well, it is “not to be used in confined spaces and not to be used on the head, neck, fingers or toes.” A further warning:  “Avoid spraying near the eyes.”  These are the kinds of things to know BEFORE use.

Save Money, Save the Planet, Save Yourself

It is not often that you can find something that is easy on the pocket book, environmentally friendly, and which just might be vital for your own well being.  That, however. is exactly what you have with the various “no battery” flashlights that are now on the market.  Whether it be a shake light, a squeeze light, a crank light, or a solar light; these flashlights all provide you with a reliable source of lighting during an emergency.

They tend to be economically priced, but that is not the only advantage.  Since no batteries are required, they are ready to work when you need them, wherever you need them.  With a life expectancy of 100,000 hours, that is a lot of lighting capability.

Then consider the following:

  1. The only price you pay is the purchase price.  Never needing batteries, you never need to buy batteries.  The savings soon add up, especially if you are using your flashlight on a regular basis.
  2. Batteries are not good for the environment.  They are considered a hazardous waste when it comes to the disposing of them.  No batteries means you will not be contributing to a landfill problem.
  3. With a no battery light source you are not going to be restricted to a few hours of usefulness.  You are not going to need worry about leaking, corroded batteries that aren’t ready to work when you need them to work.  An emergency is no time to discover that you are without an emergency light source.

So, yes, these flashlights can save you money.  They can help save the environment.  They can even have the potential of saving your life.  They are worth considering.

Many of the juices that are sold in supermarkets today are made of artificial ingredients. They also have too much sugar and are unhealthy for kids. The best option is to make your own juices yourself. It is not that hard to do. You could simply invest in gadget, such as an omega juicer, and voila! Healthy drinks around the house. The juices of fruits and veggies such as oranges, carrots, apples and mangoes are just a few that your kids would love to drink.

Another way for them to enjoy their juice is to make it into popsicles. You could simply use your juicer to extract the juices, add a little sugar, and pour the mixture into an ice cube tray. After a few hours in the freezer, you have a healthy snack to serve on a hot summer day.
